**URGENT CHRISTMAS TREES UPDATE SUNDAY 8TH DECEMBER**
Matara has lost all power today... the Christmas tree sale will still be on but if people could bring cash for any payments it would be a HUGE help as we will not be able to use our card reader machine! The inside room will be open (and possibly candlelit!) and there will be stalls and cakes available but hot drinks cannot be provided - so please bring your own hip flask and join in the fun!
Thank you for your support!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who joined us in the Palm House at Matara for our Summer Picnic on Sunday August 18th.
The weather was perfect and we had a huge turnout for 'tea and cake' in the gardens. We so enjoyed meeting you all to share our latest news and, with your amazing support, we have raised over £1000 which will go towards covering sanitation kit, training, rainwater harvesting (and more) for one of our village communities struggling with a cholera outbreak. This should help them to get on top of the disease until we can dig a vital well this winter. |
Thank you to everyone who joined us in the Palm House at Matara for our Spring Picnic on Saturday April 13th! We enjoyed meeting you all and sharing our latest news over tea and cake, and are looking forward to seeing you all again soon!
... and as an extra plus, we raised £590 on the day which was doubled through our 'Big Green Give' Appeal! - and the final total at the end of the campaign was £7042.34! THANK YOU! |

Rory’s Well Christmas Trees 2020
Sunday 6th Dec Noon - 4pm
outside at the Matara Centre
Hope you can join us for some festive fun!
With only 45 days to go until Christmas, we are pleased to announce that the annual Rory’s Well Christmas Tree Sale will take place on Sunday 6th December, but due to the pandemic we are having to do things a little differently this year!...
All trees must be pre-ordered by emailing the size and quantity to: r[email protected]
Confirmation of your order and how to pay will then be provided.
We will be doing our usual Christmas festivities of mulled wine, craft stalls and refreshments up at Matara, with the hope of allowing everyone to pick up their trees and enjoy the day - however, everything is COVID-19 dependent so watch this space for updates!

What is Inga Alley Cropping?
Inga Alley Cropping is the revolutionary alternative to slash and burn developed by Inga Foundation’s Director, Mike Hands, based on the insights gained through over a decade of research into slash and burn in partnership with Cambridge University. Of the different potential alternatives investigated by Mike Hands, the only truly sustainable system to emerge from years of scientific research was alley cropping using nitrogen-fixing tree species from the genus Inga. Inga Alley Cropping is capable of maintaining soil fertility and good harvests year after year, thereby breaking the cycle of slash and burn and allowing families to gain long term food security on one piece of land

Rory’s Well "Kayak Down The Wye" to raise funds for Bees farming in Sierra Leone
Angela Salter and Kath Brent are Kayaking 40 miles of the River Wye from Hoarwithy to Brockweir from 19 July to 21 July 2018 to raise funds for “Rory’s Well Gets Buzzing”. Funds are needed to increase the number of hives for current bee farmers and to provide training and hives for more villages.
All funds raised will train and support bee farmers to make hives, manage bees, process and market honey and other hive products. This is a sustainable project that will add to the livelihood opportunities of villagers in the Pujehun District of Sierra Leone. We aim to use resources that are locally available and to facilitate training beyond the timescale of the project.

Xmas Tree Event 2017 - UPDATE and Photos
A belated HUGE thank you to everyone that supported Rory’s Well Xmas Trees this year on and after the day itself. We raised around £1,500 which was amazing given the “winter wonderland” conditions!
We hope you all had a lovely festive time and that your tree gave you great joy and a feel good factor. With your support the 500 villagers of Grima will be healthier and happier next year as we can now get them on to the full farming for livelihood and nutrition programme.
There are a few more photos and video on xmas-trees-2017.html and of course loads of info about Rory’s Well on the website.
Happy New Year and Huge Thanks on behalf of the people of Sierra Leone and Rory’s Well
Love Karen and Tony
UPDATE at 11:30 Sunday morning
We are at Matara and the good news is its very snowy and pretty, the bad news is the roads are a bit tricky!
Should be OK for 4x4 and good drivers but don’t recommend it for any cars that are not good in the snow.
As it’s just Tony and I we’ll just be manning outside Xmas Tree sales for the intrepid but we will keep you posted for plans for Monday.
Let us know if you want to reserve a tree for collection tomorrow when the roads are safer!

Rory’s Well Xmas Trees at Matara 2017
UPDATE at 10:30 Sunday morning
Matara is beautiful and we will be open to sell Xmas trees at noon but with a reduced program and in a bit of chaos as many of the helpers (no jewellery/wreaths) are snowed in! We’ll close at 3:30 to get everyone home in the llight! There’s a lot of snow around at Matara but it is melting but please put safety first and make your own call.
Anyone who can’t make it please don’t worry we can hold a tree for you and make arrangements for collection on Monday if you can confirm what you’d like 5, 6 or 7 foot by mail to [email protected]
Hope you enjoy the snow but put safety first!!

Ceramics Exhibition 2017 - in Aid of Rorys Well Charity.
18th October 2017 at Westonbirt School
Following the fantastic success of last year’s exhibition with Sean Mills and Tom Knowles Jackson where we raised over £3000, we are holding another exhibition on Wednesday 18th October at Westonbirt School . All the details are on the enclosed png images but suffice to say that in addition to the sparkling array of ceramics, Louise Green, a Tresham artist, will also be selling her pictures in aid of the charity. Sean will be selling functional earthenware and decorative porcelains. There will be wine and canapes and a great opportunity to see friends and pick up Christmas and wedding presents AND know your money is going to a great cause. We hope you can join us and do bring a friend and pass on the invite.
