World facing “Famine of biblical proportions” warns UN
Dear Friends,
Covid-19 has now spread in Sierra Leone and the response is to keep people in lockdown in their huts, they can’t gather food, plant seeds or go to the market.
This means people will go hungry. We are not talking about people going to bed hungry, but about days and days without food.
Often the only thing to eat in these circumstances are the seeds being stored for planting for the next harvest, if they eat these seeds there will be long term mass starvation.
Please help us stop the corona virus pandemic turning into a FAMINE of biblical proportions in our communities in Sierra Leone.

Hear for yourself the impact the rice donations is having on
Mr Koroma’s family.
Mr Koroma is the deputy head of the local secondary school so relatively well off but like every family has a family farm as his main source of food for his household.
It is hard to understand everything but here are the high lights gleaned from the interview filmed by Steven the head of our partner organisation in Sierra Leone PAD-SL.
Together we are feeding families, securing futures and saving lives.
Thank You for your support.

- They are hugely grateful, overwhelmed, over joyed and want to express their appreciation
- The rice arrived just at the right time to stop them from having to eat their seed rice
- They can now plant their farms with their seed rice in June, the key planting time
- They have a 50kg bag of rice which will last 2 weeks for the wider family he supports
- They are worried what will happen after that especially if there are further TOTAL lockdowns
- He prays to Allah that there will be further support
Together we are feeding families, securing futures and saving lives.
Thank You for your support.
To try and reduce virus spread on Sunday May 3rd we delivered buckets, disinfectant, facemarks and gloves to our villages closest to the main roads.
On Friday May 22nd Steven (PAD-SL country manager) was asked to attend an emergency meeting with the Paramount Chief, Village Chiefs and family elders from Rory's Well community villages.

Everyone shared their fear for the impact of both Covid-19 and the immediate effect of the lockdown on food and farming.
.
Sierra Leone lockdown rules keep people in their huts, they can’t gather food, plant seeds or go to the market.
This means people will go hungry. We’re are not talking about people going to bed hungry, but talking about days and days without food.
Often the only thing to eat now are the seeds being stored for planting for the next harvest, if they eat these seeds there will be long term mass starvation.
They requested help with FOOD for the household lockdown periods.
Within a few hours of hearing about the request Rory’s Well Trustees, project managers and close friends raised funds to buy and distributed over 5 tons of rice, sufficient to feed the most vulnerable in the communities we support for the first 3-4 day lockdown.
Sufficient funds where transferred on Wednesday May 27th to purchase 95 bags of Rice.
Steven and the PAD team distributed bags of rice to 22 villages on the Friday and Saturday before the Sunday May 31st 3 day lockdown. Unfortunately we didn't have sufficient rice for everyone - we have missed 14 villages.
We hope to raise additional funds to feed these people - Please donate

Due to the fantastic generosity of Rory's Well supporters we have raised sufficient funds to distributed bags of rice to a further 14 villages.
On Friday 5th June Steven and the PAD team delivered an additional 3 tons of rice.
There will be many more lock downs before COVID is under control in Sierra Leone. We are keeping clean water flowing and have sent hygiene supplies but now desperately need your help to feed families, protect futures and save lives.
