Nutrition is a key issue in terms of the impact on health, community and the environment. The diet is heavily based on locally grown carbohydrates - rice and cassava. Protein is limited, and one source - bush meat, is now banned since the Ebola crisis. This unbalanced diet is leading to a number of health issues but particularly to a huge rise in diabetes. Several pilot projects initiated in the summer by Rory’s Well Trustees were looking great when we visited in November 2015 and in April 2016 and we’re keen to expand these initiatives.
