We are a life-giving project working sensitively and co-operatively within Sierra Leone, empowering local people and transferring skills for future independence ...‘helping those in need to help themselves in a truly sustainable way’ We can demonstrate that we are actively contributing towards the achievement of 13 out of 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals. (SDG's)
Rory’s Well is a charity set up in memory of our son Rory Evans, who died in a car accident, just days after his 18th birthday in December 2013. We wanted to create something that was life-giving and positive to celebrate his life and so we created Rory's Well, which provides essential support to communities in rural Sierra Leone. Initially working through a partner Alive & Well, Rory’s Well has drilled or refurbished 40 wells to date, which have brought essential clean, safe drinking water to communities in desperate need of it.

Rory’s Well has also funded a motor bike for transporting staff from Alive & Well between remote villages, sponsored a girl’s education, sorted the generator that pumps water for 1,000 boys in Bo School and, during the Ebola crisis, funded and distributed sanitation products and rice. Our latest initiative has been to establish a tree nursery in preparation to start Inga Alley Cropping saving acres of forest from destructive slash and burn.

Since 2015, Rory's Well has progressed into further projects focusing on supporting the 'basics of life': clean water, food, health and livelihood (including education and skills transfer) These projects are all delivered with cultural sensitivity and guided by local people's knowledge and needs, so empowering the people and transferring skills for future independence.
Please see the Projects page for more details.
