Rory’s Well has now progressed to become a charity in its own right with a wider mission than just wells and has formally joined forces with Matara our “spiritual home” where Rory worked and had many happy times.
Rory was all about including everyone in win-win adventures, focusing on people and trusted relationships and putting ideas into action in an innovative, fun way (although he may not have put it like that!) Rory wanted to make a difference in the world and we hope to take his inspiration and create opportunities that enrich us all, giving, sharing, learning and working together on an exciting cultural, spiritual and healing journey to benefit and bind our communities. Rory’s Well initiatives are already underway in the rural communities of the Pujehun district of Sierra Leone, focussing on supporting the basics of life: clean water, food, health & livelihood (including education and skills transfer). We hope each initiative will have a passionate Sponsor to ensure that “their baby” stays on track and delivers maximum benefit to those in need, within the values of Rory’s Well. Initiatives will be delivered in partnership with the PDO (Pujehun Development Organization) ensuring we are always culturally sensitive and guided by local people’s knowledge and needs. The PDO has been successfully delivering projects for UK based charities for 7 years and is registered in Sierra Leone. One of the trustees is the Right Honorable Senesi Fawundu, MP for Barri and Pejeh in the Pujehun district, with whom we have a long-term and trusted relationship. Many of you will have met Senesi when he visited us in July 2104 and July 2015. Rory’s Well will also work in partnership with other charities where they have expertise for example Alive & Well for digging wells, WTN (Wherever The Need) for sanitation and Tools for Self Reliance for livelihood and training packages. |
